First, I will present the study that established basic eye-movement characteristics in reading for Heritage Speakers and L2 learners in connection to proficiency and linguistics factors of word length and frequency. Next, I will describe the novel to bilingualism scanpath approach that we used to examine global qualitative differences in reading strategies of the bilingual and monolingual readers. Finally, in the study 3 we examined whether similar to monolinguals, Heritage Speakers and L2 learners are able to anticipate lexical and/or morphosyntactic information to facilitate sentence comprehension in reading. I discuss the findings in respect to theories of Heritage Language development as well as various accounts of bilingual language processing.
