Apro-Poe: Interdisciplinary Symposium on Edgar Allan Poe
Apro-Poe: An Interdiscplinary Symposium on Edgar Allan Poe and His Cultural Influence
Wednesday, January 10, 2018, Music Auditorium, Building 1005 (northern campus)
Co-organized by the English Department and the Music Department at Bar-Ilan University, this one-day symposium (in Hebrew) offers the perspectives of scholars from multiple disclpines on the work of Edgar Allan Poe --- one of the most striking and original writers in the American literary tradition, a pioneer of horror writing and detective fiction, and an enduring influence on artists and thinkers.
The symposium will end with a musical event in which the internationally renowned Carmel Quartet will perform Andre Caplet's "Conte fantastique," a work inspired by Poe's story "Masque of the Red Death." The concert will be preceded by a short lecture by Dr. Yael Shapira (English) and Dr. Yoel Greenberg (Music) on the story and the challenges of its musical adaptation.
