Title: Revisiting atypical language acquisition of children with Hearing Impairment
Abstract: It is agreed that children with hearing impairment show language deficit in different features of the language. In the current talk I will present recent findings from three studies of children with hearing impairment. I will argue that it is not the hearing device (hearing aids versus cochlear implants), nor the mode of communication (oral-aural versus simultaneous communication) that explain typical language acquisition, but rather the access to language capacity.
