Linguistics Colloquium: Gal Nitsan
Gal Nitsan, University of Haifa & IDC
Title: Eye-gaze, Cognition and Spoken Word Recognition
Individual differences in cognitive capacity have been gaining recognition as playing an important role in speech comprehension, especially in adverse listening environments.
In this talk I will present evidence from eye-tracking experiments, supporting the idea that the cost of recognizing spoken words in adverse conditions is greater for listeners with smaller working memory span. Preliminary data from older adults will also be discussed. Simply put, in speech processing, one size does not fit all.
