New BA Combinations in the Department

Want to study English literature together with the literatures of other places and times? Interested in developing your fluency in both English and French? How about studying both literature and linguistics in one streamlined program?

The Department of English Literature and Linguistics now offers the following BA combinations, planned in advance to help you pursue different academic interests without running into scheduling problems.

Studying Linguistics/ English Literature Together with Other Literatures and Languages

Double Major in Linguistics and Hebrew Language – For students who wish to combine the cross-linguistic perspective and theoretical insights of general linguistics with a specialization in the Hebrew language. Double Major in English Literature and Comparative Literature – For students who wish to combine intensive study of English and American literature with a broad perspective on the masterpieces of Western literature. This double major can also be combined with studies towards a teaching certificate. Double Major in English Literature and French Literature and Culture – For students interested in studying English literature together with the literature and culture of the Francophone world. Studies in this combination are conducted in English, French and Hebrew, offering a chance to pursue a very high level of fluency in all three languages. Double Major in Linguistics/ English Literature and French Culture – For students who wish to study French culture in Hebrew while also studying English literature or linguistics. Since both departments offer courses in linguistics, this double major is a chance to gain greater understanding and command of English and French at the same time. Combining Linguistics and English Literature

If you wish to study both fields and do your entire BA inside the Department of English Literature and Linguistics, several planned options are available to make your schedule simpler:

  • You can do a double major in English literature and linguistics, dividing your studies equally between the two fields; or,
  • You can choose to do most of your courses in either literature or linguistics (an expanded major), while taking a small number of courses in the other field.
