BA Requirements (before 2019-20)

Note: Course requirements for the BA tracks in English literature are changing starting 2019-20. However, these changes will not affect students now entering their third year of studies, who will continue to follow the old requirements, listed below.

Expanded Major Track - Requirements (before 2019-20)

Electives

Students in the Major track must take two courses in the 6xx range. These courses can be taken starting in the second year of studies.

Total: 4 credits

Seminars

Students in the Expanded Major track must take seven seminars.

Starting in their second year, students can take seminars numbered in the 4xx-level range.

In their third year, students can take seminars numbered in the 4xx- and 7xx-level range.

Students in the Expanded Major track are required to write three seminar papers ("long papers"). Seminar papers can only be written in the third year, and the student can choose in which seminars to write them.

Outside courses

Students in the expanded major track must take three courses outside the department, in the Humanities Faculty

Majors in literature must take two courses in the 6xx range. These courses can be taken starting in the second year of studies.

Seminars

Majors in literature track must take two seminars, chosen from the 4xx- and 7xx-level range. 7xx-level seminars can only be taken in the third year.

Double Majors - Requirements (before 2019-20)

Double majors in English literature can choose between two tracks.

Planned double majors -

  1. majoring in both literature and linguistics, all within the department of English Literature & Linguistics;
  2. majoring in both literature and comparative literature
  3. majoring in both literature and 
  4. majoring in both literature and 

Unplanned double major - majoring in literature in the department of English Literature & Linguistics and taking another major in another department.
